Aren treasurer

The Aren City Treasurer was a noble who worked for High Fist Pormqual. He was a tall, stooped man of middle years, with a painfully thin hatchet face, long pallid fingers, and a high-pitched voice. His gaunt cheeks were powdered light blue in the latest court fashion and his eyebrows were painted.

He wore oversized Napan sea gear with a sealskin hood.

In Deadhouse Gates

At the start of the Seven Cities rebellion, Pormqual sent his treasurer on the Ragstopper to evacuate the city's treasury to Unta. He was accompanied by two giant tribesmen serving as bodyguards, one of whom was named Megara. The treasurer also bore a writ granting him commander status for the voyage, allowing him to override the captain's decisions.

The treasurer chose the opportunity to doublecross his employer, colluding with his pirate uncle and cousins to intercept the Ragstopper a few days after leaving port. After transferring the Ragstopper's cargo to the raiders' vessels, he planned to murder the ship's crew and marine complement. But he did not count on the presence of Kalam Mekhar and Salk Elan or the intransigence of the ship's captain. In the melee that followed, both raider ships were destroyed and his bodyguards were killed. Kalam and Salk then tossed the treasurer overboard weighted down with sacks of coin.
