Scholar Bahn Throol was the youngest tutor of the boy king of Itko Kan, Chulalorn the Fourth. Bahn Throol was a "brilliant scholar", and tutored Chulalorn in three subjects: calligraphy; history; and logic.[1]

In Kellanved's Reach[]

One day, Scholar Throol was evidently teaching a lesson about calligraphy. He - unthinkingly - reached out to adjust the way that the young king was gripping his stylus. This unexpected physical contact may have startled Chulalorn, as the king struck his tutor. It was, of course, forbidden to "touch the king's person" without first getting permission from him to do so. This contretemps was brought to the attention of the dowager, Lady Serenna.[2]

Lady Serenna was the matriarch of the noble Kan family, and Chulalorn was her ward and grandnephew. Lady Serenna collected Scholar Throol and the king in the main reception chamber of the Kan family's compound. Her purpose was to decide what was to be done with the, by now, pale, sweaty, and extremely ill-at-ease tutor.[3]

The situation was complicated by the unwise arrival and subsequent interference of Iko. Iko managed to maneuver the young king into apologizing to his tutor. This badly upset the dowager and probably did Bahn Throol no favours - as a forced apology from the king was the last thing that the tutor wanted or needed. Scholar Throol was escorted from the chamber by Kan family guards. This left the dowager, the king, and Iko to try and work out their difficulties. The ultimate fate of Scholar Bahn Throol was not revealed.[4]
