Berdand was a member of the Darujhistan Council.[1]

He was in a meeting with the Legate Jeshin Lim, discussing an impostor who was formenting hostilities with Pale, when Yost suggested that the Malazans might benefit from these hostilities. Berdand disagreed, saying that the Malazans had been driven away and they had seen the last of the invaders. He was enraged when Yost called him stupid, accusing him of furthering his own business interests in the Council. Berdand applauded the legate when he chose Torvald Nom to go on a covert mission to further ascertain the state of affairs there.[2]
