Chulalorn was the name of a successive line of kings of Kan. They were likely the last independent rulers of that city, and later kingdom, before it was conquered and incorporated into the Malazan Empire.

Chulalorn the First[]

Although a rival of Li Heng, Chulalorn the First never sent his armies against that powerful city.[1] He defeated and captured Juage, the Jaghut who it was believed once ruled a kingdom high above the peaks of the southern mountains.[2] Juage continued to serve the Kanese royal family even to the time of Chulalorn the Third.

Chulalorn the Second[]

Chulalorn the Second sought to rebuild the ancient kingdom of Itko Kan from the wreckage left by the fall of the Talian hegemony.[3] At some point during his reign he negotiated a treaty with the kingdom of Dal Hon. Of note was the fact that among his bodyguard, Hallens, a young sixteen year old Sword-Dancer, once stood guard for two days and nights thwarting seven assassination attempts.[4] During Chulalorn's attempt to subjugate his lands, the king took an arrow to the throat at the siege of Nex and perished.[3]

Chulalorn the Third[]

Chulalorn the Third's features were "classic dusky Kanese, lean and ascetic". He had long midnight black hair which he kept tied and thrown forward over his shoulder where it hung almost to his waist. He wore long green silk robes decorated in patterns of silver and precious stones.[5] He came to the throne at fifteen after his father's unexpected death at Nex and spent twenty years in constant warfare to complete his father's dream of resurrecting the ancient empire of Itko Kan.[3]

Chulalorn the Fourth[]

Chulalorn the Fourth was an energetic young boy with soft brown eyes. He kept his personal servants and guardians busy, often slipping away from their watchful eyes. After his father's death, General Mosolan served as the boy's regent until he came of age.[6]
