Cook was the ship's cook for the Suncurl. He was assisted in this task by Briv. Cook was a better poet than a cook and his poetry was said to be terrible.[1] Emancipor Reese, who had travelled on many ships in his career as a sailor, said Cook's food was "by far the worst he had ever tasted" and resembled "consumptive goat spume."[2] Cook could not sing, play an instrument, or rhyme.[3]

"I dreamed this thing
This thing of dreams
An army marching close
Each soldier cut off
At the knees
Which was strange and all
Since they were
Foot soldiers.
―A poem by Cook[src]
