Section Marshal Courval was a fifteen-season veteran of the Stormguard. According to Wall Marshal Quint, Courval was one of the Chosen's best men.[1]

Lord Protector Hiam made a deal with Yeull 'ul Taith, the Overlord of Fist, to temporarily loan one hundred Stormguard veterans to his forces in return for ten thousand Roolian soldiers desperately needed for the Stormwall. Courval was one of the Stormguards included in the reassignment.[2]
