The young woman referred to as the Daughter of Dassem Ultor was not actually named in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. She was described as slight and frail with dark skin.[1]

In Gardens of the Moon[]

Toc the Younger told Ganoes Paran that sometime after the Malazan Empire conquered Seven Cities, Hood took Dassem Ultor's daughter. Not long after that, Dassem died.[2]

In Deadhouse Gates[]

Fiddler, Crokus Younghand, Apsalar, Icarium, Mappo Runt, and Iskaral Pust discovered her body in Tremorlor, the Azath House in Raraku. Found dressed only in the underclothing usually worn under armour, her body was crisscrossed with "vicious wounds". She lay at the base of one of Tremorlor's tower stairs, where she looked to have been placed in the recent past. Apsalar recognised her from Cotillion's mortal memories of the girl he had thought of as Dassem's daughter. Apsalar went on to say that Dassem had recovered her years before after Hood was "done using her" and had brought her to Tremorlor. Because of this, Dassem had permanently broken his vow to Hood, who Dassem had once served.[3]

In Memories of Ice[]

While meeting in Callows with Lady Envy, the Elder God K'rul lamented the loss of their ally, Dassem, against the threat of the Crippled God. K'rul recalled how Dassem had been broken when Hood had taken his daughter at the "Time of the Chaining". Envy wondered if her own refusal to attend that Chaining had led Hood to use Dassem's daughter instead. K'rul answered that that was something that only Hood could answer. Besides, the overall issue had been complicated by the fact that Dassem--as Dessembrae--had become a rival to Hood's own power.[4]
