Eastern Seven Cities

Dryj Spring was located in the Sialk Odhan[1] in eastern Seven Cities. It was just northwest of Ladormon and the Lador Hills and southwest of Sialk. Vin'til Basin was to its north and the Tithansi Steppes to its west.[2]

The oasis was a deep sinkhole surrounded by palm trees.[3]

In Deadhouse Gates[]

Fist Coltaine's Chain of Dogs headed for the spring after bloodying High Mage Kamist Reloe and his army of the Apocalypse at the Battle of Bat'rol. Tithansi horse-warriors chased after the Malazan forces.[4]

While the 7th Army and its refugee charges refreshed their supplies at the oasis, Coltaine prepared a surprise for the pursuing Tithansi. He sent his Wickans over a league from the oasis where they trapped the resting Tithansi in a closing-horseshoe charge. Although outnumbered seven to one, the Wickans broke the Tithansi and killed a hundred for every Wickan who fell. After the slaughter, they burned the Tithansi wagons in a great conflagration that could be seen miles away.

The surviving Tithansi came away from the encounter thinking the Wickans unkillable demons led by an Ascendant. By then Coltaine's army had finished drawing water from the spring, plugged it with rocks, cut down all of the palm trees, and moved on.[5]
