For the Teblor warleader, see Elade Tharos.
Elade was the mother of Widdershins. She came from a family skilled in animal husbandry and married a wood-cutter. In addition to Widdershins, she bore one other son.[1]
Widdershins described his mother as like a bird, "the kind that flits about as if no branch gives comfort, no leaf makes perfect shade". Her husband was jealous and abusive, and violently beat her.[1]
In The Crippled God[]
Widdershins recalled how their neighbour, old Ginanse the knife-sharpener, had been found strangled in the alley behind his shop. Elade had always thought him a sweet soul and he hardly charged her for his work. Evidence suggested Ginanse had been strangled by a horsehair rope, a traditional punishment for adulterers by wood-cutters. Realising her husband was guilty of the crime, Elade killed him by stabbing him in the chest with the family's lethally sharp knife.[1]
