Ernen was an old man who owned a small fishing vessel near Ring in Jourilan.

After the great wave destroyed the wharves of Ring city, Ernen noticed the chain protecting the Ring Wall had fallen. He and three youths took his boat out to the Stormguard island at night looking for swords and armour they could salvage from the island's garrison. But deep within the crystal clear waters of the Hole they spotted a giant armoured guardian lying in repose bearing a sword. The youths made Ernen abandon their enterprise for fear of disturbing it.[1]
