Malazan Wiki

Exent Hadar was a Commander in the Jakatakan Fleet. He was firstborn of House Hadar in Unta.[1] He was tall and weak-chinned with a watery, uneasy look in his pale eyes.[1] He was unwaveringly loyal to Empress Laseen, describing her as "all-knowing".[1]

Hadar wore elaborate, expensive armour.[1]

In The Bonehunters[]

Over several months, Hadar and the Jakatakan Fleet fought six engagements with an unknown enemy in black warships off the southern coast of Quon Tali. The Malazan fleet initially suffered in the exchanges as the Malazan ship mages were unable to contend with the enemy's sorcery. A strengthening of the complement and calibre of the fleet's mage cadres evened matters considerably.[1] At the time they did not know they were facing the Tiste Edur of the Letherii Empire.

Hadar was later charged with intercepting Admiral Nok's Malazan Imperial Fleet carrying Adjunct Tavore Paran's Malaz 14th Army back home from Seven Cities. The Empress gave him the precise position to meet the incoming fleet where it arrived after traveling through the Warren of Togg and Fanderay. Hadar boarded the Adjunct's flagship, Froth Wolf, in the company of four marines, one of whom was actually a disguised Claw. Instead of sailing on to Unta as expected, Hadar's orders were to send the Adjunct's fleet to Malaz City where the Empress awaited. Adjunct Tavore noted the barely disguised hostility of Hadar's marines towards Nil and Nether and Hadar revealed that news of Wickan complicity in the slaughter of Pormqual's army at Aren was spreading through Quon Tali.[1]

The marines of the 14th Army saluted Hadar's departing fleet by defecating off the sides of their ships en masse.[1] Fiddler later wondered if Hadar had kept his gaze averted from Fist Keneb during the parley aboard the Froth Wolf as Hadar was romantically involved with Selv, the Fist's wife.[2]
