Lord Fense was a knight and a member of the ruling family of Jurda. Fense was the uncle of Duke Rethor - the Jurdan ruler - in the very early days of the formation of the Malazan Empire. Lord Fense was an older man, with greying beard and hair.[1]

At this time, Jurda was an ally of Gris. Malle of Gris, having called a meeting with the Grisian allies, Duke Rethor sent Fense to speak at the council - as Castle Jurda was then "isolated and besieged" by the forces of Bloor. Lord Fense informed the gathered group that his nephew, the Duke, would hold for as long as it would take to be rid of the "damned Bloorians" - Jurda's long-time enemy. Fense added that Duke Rethor only asked of the Grisian allies that they send a relief force. After discussion, Malle of Gris told Lord Fense that a force would be assembled to "push back the Bloorians" in order to relieve Jurda.[2]
