Stayandi was a ten-year-old mute Letherii girl who had been born and raised in Drene where she and her entire extended family were all Indebted to Factor Letur Anict. She and her father, mother, brothers, sisters, grandmother, and two aunts all lived crammed together in a squalid shack in an area of the city infested with rats, cockroaches, and scorpions.[1]

Stayandi lost her voice after a house steward had punished her by locking her in a cramped trunk overnight. Although the night spent shrieking in terror had stolen her voice, she was afterwards selected to become a lady's handmaiden in training as secrets could no longer pass her lips.[2]

One of her brothers was sixteen-year-old Abasard.[1]

In Reaper's Gale[]

Stayandi and her family accompanied the Factor's foreman to the Awl'dan plains to join a camp of drovers on land recently appropriated by the Letherii from the Awl. The herds of Myrid and Rodara they tended were likewise stolen. Their new life of magic, clean air, and freedom was soon ended when Redmask massacred the camp with his K'Chain Che'Malle to recover the stolen animals and launch his rebellion. Abasard saved her life by distracting one of the K'ell Hunters before it could strike her down as she fled her doomed family's tent. She was the only one to survive.[3]

She wandered the plains starving until she was seemingly adopted by a family of wolves as their own. They fed her small rodents and nursed her with their milk until she no longer remembered how to speak or walk on two legs. When her new family's cubs were grown, she was left alone once more. Then she was discovered by a warrior whose dark, bare skin was painted white with his face made to resemble a skull. Staring into his eyes and snarling, she suddenly remembered her old life. When he departed without speaking, she stood up and followed him at a distance.[4]

In Dust of Dreams[]

Setoc of the Wolves had once been named Stayandi, and was said to have been born among wolves. She lived among the Gadra clan of the Barghast who had found her and taken her in. She appeared as an outsider among the Gadra. When the Gadra journeyed to war, Setoc, Torrent, and Cafal parted way with the clan. Setoc and Cafal journeyed together for a time through the Beast Hold, to reach the Senan.

In the aftermath of the Barghast uprising against Onos T'oolan and his family, Absi and his half sisters were left in the care of Setoc. They escaped, and along with Torrent, met the stranded caravan of the Trygalle Trade Guild in the Wastelands.

In The Crippled God[]

She was the Destriant of the Grey Helms.

Setoc and her companions were still travelling with the surviving members of the Trygalle Trade Guild, Precious Thimble, Faint, Sweetest Sufferance, Gruntle, and Amby Bole as well as Mappo Runt and the individual known as Cartographer when Olar Ethil appeared and laid claim to Absi. To avoid opposition, Olar Ethil made deals with the adults. Setoc was swayed by Torrent not to interfere. Her wolf ghosts were terrified of Olar Ethil.[5]

Setoc showed signs of precognition, telling Faint several things that did subsequently come to pass.[6]

Setoc left the others and joined with the army of the Perish Grey Helms, now led by Shield Anvil Tanakalian. She raped his mind, discovering his ambitious and petty nature.

On the eve of the Battle of the Spire, the Grey Helms were visited by the former Mortal Sword Krughava. She challenged the Wolves' presumption that they could win the war against the humans. Enraged, the Wolves' attempted to kill Krughava, tearing apart Setoc's body as they manifested.
