Ismara was the Queen and High Priestess of Aren before the Malazan Empire's invasion of Seven Cities.[1] She was an elderly, grey-haired woman draped in robes of shimmering gold cloth and wearing a slim gold crown.[1] Her son was Imanaj D'Shren, the Champion of Aren.[1]
In Forge of the High Mage[]
Queen Ismara and her honour guard of forty Aren soldiers waited to greet Imanaj's return by Falari fishing boat at the city's wharf. The occasion was celebrated by great horns and thousands of cheering spectators on the city walls. After happily welcoming her son and announcing that twenty oxen would be sacrificed on the city altar in his name, she offered to shower Brother Rendren and the other Falari sailors with gold. Imanaj convinced her that providing them with their finest captured Falaran galley would be reward enough. When talk turned to rumours of the Malazan Empire's invasion of the Falari Isles, Imanaj assured his mother the Malazans were no threat to Aren.[1]
