The Kingdom of the Thaumaturgs was a misnomer, as it was not actually a kingdom but a mageocracy led by the most powerful Thaumaturg mages. The Kingdom of the Thaumaturgs was located in the north-west of the continent Jacuruku. The capital city was Anditi Pura, located in the north of the nation, while there was a southern capital Isana Pura located in the south. The leaders of the nation were the Circle of Nine, with the Prime Master being Surin.[1]
The Kingdom of the Thaumaturgs was the only developed nation on the continent of Jacuruku during the time of the Malazan Empire.
The southern Thaumaturg lands near the Canyon Lands were a broad plateau of channelled rivers and farmlands.[2] Small bands of Adwami annually launched raids into Thaumaturg territory, looting villages, stealing crops, and taking captives.[3]
In Reaper's Gale[]
The Crimson Guardsman Iron Bars and his Second Blade confronted a dozen of the Thaumaturgs' Yakshaka on the shores of Jacuruku.[4]
In Return of the Crimson Guard[]
The passengers of the Kite (Traveller, Ereko, Kyle, and the Lost brothers) were greeted upon their arrival on the northern shores of Jacuruku by the Thaumaturg Jhest Golanjar. He attempted to trap the Ascendant Traveller within a prison of D'riss while his Yakshaka handled the others. Ereko freed Traveller, who promptly slew Jhest.[5]
In Blood and Bone[]
The Warleader led an army of mercenaries and the collected cavalry and infantry of the Adwami across the Canyon Lands to launch a punitive campaign deep into the Thaumaturg lands. [6][7] At the same time, Thaumaturg commander Golan led the Army of Righteous Chastisement into the Jungle of Himatan against the city of Jakal Viharn.
