Kullsan was a long dead soldier from the time of the First Empire.[1]

Kullsan and Erethal were among an army of ghost soldiers which appeared to Kalam Mekhar as he was crossing the Holy Desert of Raraku prior to the final showdown between the Malazan 14th Army and the Army of the Apocalypse. As Kalam (himself seen as a ghost by Kullsan and Erethal) listened, the two discussed the battle in which they had just fought against forces of Emperor Dessimbelackis. They argued as to whether their army had been victorious or not with Kullsan claiming no matter how many legions they slaughtered the First Emperor found more. Erethal countered saying they had eliminated five of the Seven Protectors and the sixth was beyond recovery as the black beast itself had been banished.[1]
