Kust was one of Darujhistan Councilman Hanut Orr's most capable guards,[1] though he thought the noble to be an arrogant tyrant.[2] He enjoyed picking fights against those weaker than himself.[3]

In Toll the Hounds[]

When Hanut Orr received word of the death of his political ally, Gorlas Vidikas, he rightly suspected someone from the Phoenix Inn was responsible. The Inn was associated with his enemy Councilman Coll and other conspirators he believed were involved in the murder of his uncle, Turban Orr. Hanut was determined to achieve his long-delayed vengeance by killing Coll and his lowborn friends that night and assembled four of his most trusted guards. These included Kust and Havet, who he brought with him to the Phoenix Inn, and two others he sent to watch Coll's estate.[4]

Hanut set Havet to watch the Phoenix Inn's front door while Kust went inside to make a show. Hanut positioned himself in the back alley intending to slay anyone attempting to flee. Coll quickly overpowered Kust, who valued his own life more than loyalty and divulged his master was nearby. While Meese watched over Kust with a two-handed mace, Coll went to confront Hanut but found only his corpse. The noble had crossed paths in the alley with the notorious killer Gaz, who had beaten him to death. Kust held out hope that he would be able to leave the Inn before anyone encountered the guards dispatched to Coll's estate.[5]
