Laughter's End was an area of the ocean wastes about a week's journey east of Lamentable Moll and Theft.[1][2] The "Red Road" was a blood-dark ocean current that carried the blood of Mael, the Elder God of the Sea, and held the promise of power.[3] Visitors traveling its waters could behold a night sky completely free of stars.[4]

Dhenrabi were attracted to the area during their mating season.[5]

In The Lees of Laughter's EndEdit

As the Suncurl entered the grim vein of Laughter's End, the souls trapped within the cursed iron nails in its hold became an eager hungry chorus singing songs of freedom.[6] The angry dead used the current's power to combine and take on the form of a lich which stalked and murdered the crew.[7] The necromancer, Korbal Broach, defeated the lich just as the Suncurl reached the edges of Laughter's End and safer waters. The dead were forced back into their iron prisons.[8]

In Reaper's Gale Edit

Shurq Elalle, who had become a pirate, had lost her first ship command to a Marese escort in the waters of Laughter's End.[9]

TriviaEdit

Although the text of The Lees of Laughter's End states Laughter's End is west of Lamentable Moll and Theft, Erikson revealed in an interview that this detail is incorrect:

Cam is left-handed and I am right-handed and this has led to confusion again and again on how we internally visualise things. As an aside, the opening line in Lees is wrong, and “west” should read “east.” (I think, I don’t have the map with me at the mo.)[2]
