Lo asked Jan if he could conduct a search for the man who had reputedly killed Blacksword, who had held the position of Seventh for so long. Though Jan was against such adventurism, when he received the news that the altar stone had started shedding tears and they were summoned, he asked Lo to go ahead and find this man and offer him the position of Seventh.[1]
Lo took along with him his son Sall and the two eventually travelled to the Mengal Mountains. There they encountered Orbern and his band of bandits and hired one among them, Yusek, to be their guide. At a certain pass among the mountains, they encountered Dernan the Wolf and his much larger army of bandits. The two Seguleh slaughtered all except the servants.[2]
Continuing on, they arrived at the monastery where Lo tried to single out the man they sought. After days of observation, he was finally able to pick out the man he was searching for, an old man with peppery grey hair. Despite repeated provocations from Lo, the man never rose to face his challenges . The two Seguleh then decided to leave the monastery to join the other Seguleh in Darujhistan. Hearing this, the man they sought decided he would come with them. Yusek too, decided to come along.[3]
Lo reached Darujhistan along with Sall, Yusek and the old man and witnessed Jan's death and the old man, now revealed to be Dassem Ultor being offered the mask of the First, which he accepted.[4]
