Lying Gell was the self proclaimed Baron of Wrongway, a ramshackle prospector town on the shores of the Sea of Gold in Assail. He and his gang of about 300 toughs and strongarms ran the camp after driving out the original inhabitants. They collected docking fees as one source of revenue.[1]

When Cartheron Crust used the camp to recruit former Malazan soldiers he also took the opportunity to liberate the town's treasury. Afterwards, Lying Gell was found knifed to death and the town was largely abandoned.[2]
