Unnamed characters[]
I have posted B - it is phenomenal how many names are on that list. What are your thoughts on unnamed characters? I am leaning towards creating a separate section for them... Egwene of the Malazan Empire (talk) 18:25, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, again: it's clear that the total alphabet 'Mega DP' is going to be very loooooong. I'm cringing already to think of how many entries there are going to be when 'R', 'S' and 'T' are reached - those three letters always had the most entries when I was working on the books' Extended DPs. SE has always had a tendency to make up a lot of 'G' proper names, as well. Yes, I think the unnamed characters entries are going to present unique problems, which may well require a separate section to deal with them - for one thing, some sort of extra citation - book and chapter (?) - may be required for them, so that it will be clear which unnamed character is being referred to. I just wish that there weren't so many non-trivial characters in the books that SE (in particular) didn't give names to (for a variety of reasons). Care is also going to have to be taken so that characters unnamed in earlier books - but finally specifically named in later books - are handled consistently. A policy decision will probably have to be made as to how to deal with them - possible spoilers aren't the only concern.Pcwrcw (talk) 02:45, February 8, 2018 (UTC)
- With the mega DP, we'll assume that the reader has read them all so character summaries will include major spoilers and all secondary identities, alias etc. will refer directly to the character's main page as in 'Bugg see Mael' - for example.
- Ok, let's go with separate section (or page) for unnamed characters. That list should probably also include those who have their own Wiki page but not an individual name like Paran's father for example. Unless there is a name, a reader would not know under which name to look for those characters. Same as with secondary identities, the main mega DP could have a referral - 'Paran's father see Mega DP Unnamed character's section/page' - entry. - Hi Egwene: I like what you're proposing to do with the unnamed characters entries - if necessary, the UnC 'given names' can be adjusted to deal with any possible confusions between entries that might come up. (BTW, You are really zipping along with the 'Mega DP' - the 'G' list was as just as long as I was afraid it was going to be - it's also depressing to see how many characters still need even basic articles written for them...)
