A Malazan ratter was small, compactly muscled breed of dog with black hair, overlong razor-like canines, and a fox-like snout and ears. Bred for its fearless insanity, Kalam Mekhar called the animal a dubious claim to fame for Malaz City.[1]
In Deadhouse Gates[]
While hiding from multiple Hands of the Claw in Malaz City, Kalam came face to face with a Malazan ratter named Flower chewing on a rodent. The dog finished its meal before rising to furiously bark at the assassin and alert the Claw to Kalam's position. As Kalam fought several of the Claw the crazed dog leapt onto the head of one of his opponents, biting open the side of his face. Kalam tossed the dog over a fence to safety before the other Claw could kill it.[2]
