Malazan Wiki

Malkir Herengar was the heir to the Grisian throne in the years before the founding of the Malazan Empire[1] and the twin brother of Malle.[2] He was a pale, slim youth with straight sandy-brown hair and long features conveying a moroseness of character.[3] He dressed all in black and wore a thin gold band on his head.[3]

He and K'azz D'Avore were close friends after K'azz had grown up within the Grisian court as a hostage.[4]

His standard was the gold flames of Gris on a field of blue with a thin dark circlet crown over the flames indicating his position as royal heir.[5]

In Dancer's Lament[]

Malkir travelled to Li Heng in the company of K'azz and Courian D'Avore and the Crimson Guard to make a name for himself hunting the manbeast Ryllandaras.[4] He made the journey despite his twin sister's protests, and when Ryllandaras slew him, Cal-Brinn feared she would not forgive the Guard.[6]

In Kellanved's Reach[]

A year after his death, Malkir's throne remained empty and his sister's official title remained murky. Their mother still lived, but was sickly and bedridden, so Malle served as de facto ruler of Gris. She blamed Courian D'Avore and his Crimson Guard for her brother's death as she believed they should have died to a man or woman to protect him. Malle hoped to one day be close enough to D'Avore to slip a knife into his remaining eye.[7]
