May

May was a member of Sergeant Jumpy's squad of saboteurs in the Malaz 4th Army. She was a slight woman, all bones and angles, with hair hacked short and old scars on her nose and chin.

In Return of the Crimson Guard

In the midst of the Battle of the Plains against the rebel Talian League, Corporal Jumpy was ordered to secure the munitions left behind by the League's retreating Gold Moranth. May was one of those selected by Jumpy to join him in that task.

The ad-hoc squad performed admirably on the field, taking on the frontline Moranth and resulting in Jumpy's promotion to sergeant. The night after the battle the squad made an impromptu dash back onto the field to rescue squadmate Brill before tangling with the man-jackal Ryllandaras.

Jumpy soon promoted May to corporal as she was the only viable candidate.

On the second day of the battle, the Malazans fought the Crimson Guard. Jumpy's squad established a redoubt above the battlefield to find and target the Avowed. When a Guard mage unleashed a demon against the Malazans, May killed it with the lucky toss of a melter.
