Ravast was a Thel Akai who lived on the Thel Akai Plateau in the time of ancient Kurald Galain. He was the youngest and most recent of Lasa Rook's three husbands--the others being Garelko and Tathenalwho lived together on a farm on the heel of the Lower Rise above their village.[1][2] He was a natural warrior who had chosen to set aside his weapons and armour to marry Lasa and make a life of farming and herding sheep along with his fellow husbands.[3][4][5]

The three men were each other's closest companions and constantly traded barbs over their shared ties to the same woman.[6][7] None enjoyed Lasa's cooking,[8] and Lasa thought all three of her husbands had the palate of dogs for shovelling down the meals she prepared that even she herself described as wretched.[9]

He carried a battleaxe slung over his shoulder.[10]

History[]

Ravast had caught Lasa's eye when ship-borne Thelomen raiders had struck their village and he was still new to his weapon. The inexperienced warrior had taken up his axe and shield and mistakenly stood amongst the village's ancients, who formed the first line of defence. Widowed, aged, and lame, their primary purpose was to spend their lives slowing an attack giving the village youths time to don their armour. Ravast had fought ferociously as all died around him, until the younger warriors joined him and together they drove the Thelomen back to sea. He had been proclaimed both a hero and a fool that day, and still bore mental scars that manifested as fear and terrifying dreams. None knew of the "lame, shivering creature that hid inside his hale young body."[3]

In Fall of Light[]

When Lasa Rook disappeared from their village in the company of Erelan Kreed and Hanako, Ravast and the other husbands put their flocks in Stapp's care in order to pursue her.[11]
