Shijel was an Avowed of the Crimson Guard, First Company.[1] He favoured two swords and always fancied himself a match for Blues.[2] Shijel was described by others as a "master swordsman". He was a Kartoolian.[3]

In Return of the Crimson GuardEdit

At the end of the Diaspora he returned to Fortress Haven on Stratem with Skinner.[4] The reunited Guard then invaded Unta, the Malazan imperial capital. Shijel was one of the select few Avowed chosen to accompany Skinner and Shimmer into the Malazan Imperial Palace where they found only Mallick Rel.[5]

Shijel later fought the Malazans at the Battle of the Plains near Li Heng where he was among those Disavowed by K'azz D'Avore.[6]

In StonewielderEdit

Shijel joined Skinner and others of the Disavowed to assault the Sky Tower and seize the fragment of the Crippled God that the Stormguard kept as their holiest relic.[7]

In Blood and BoneEdit

Shijel was a member of the party of the Disavowed[8] - led by Skinner - that accompanied Golan and the Army of Righteous Chastisement as the Army invaded the Jungle of Himatan on the Isle of Jacuruku.[9]

Shijel was one of the Disavowed who hunted down and killed a 'monster' - known as a "servant of Ardata". At this time, Shijel was wearing light leathers and gloves, and his hands were never far from the silver-wrapped grips of his twin longswords. At Skinner's orders, Shijel led the group and did the tracking required to find the creature.[10]
