The Stormwall

High ranking members of the Stormguard, Lord Protector Hiam and Staff Marshall Shool, discuss Malazans, the state of the Stormwall, and an aging ‘champion’ who has a death wish, and is said to be a foreigner.

Master Engineer Stimins claims the Stormriders' frost attacks are destroying the wall. Hundred years or so and the wall will be no more.

Jourilan

Ivanr, a mixed-blood Thelomen Toblakai, gardening at his farm in southern Jourilan is interrupted by a priestess. She tries to convince him to convert and gives him a symbol of the Lord of Tragedy.

Banith

Bakune, is investigating a second young woman’s death in Banith. Seemingly related to the local temple (The Lady).

Delanss

Kyle is acting as a hire sword for a tavern owner and moneylender in Delanss.

Orjin Samarr has fallen on hard times and Kyle goes to visit him. Korelri veterans of the Stormwall show up and accuse Orjin of ‘making pacts with the enemy’. Kyle no longer has Osserc's blade as it was stolen from his room. Orjin has a weapon, given to him by the Stormriders after he talked with them. Apparently it is an ancient weapon ‘they’d found it deep at the bottom of the Cut far beneath the sea’.

The Stormwall, North of Kor

Iron Bars is in prison with Corlo.

Malaz City

A slim cloaked figure stands outside of the Deadhouse in Malaz City. The younger taller figure is commanded to ‘Hold’ by an older woman; the younger woman then takes the hand of the older woman and kisses it.

Kiska talks to Agayla, in her spice shop. Kiska leaves frustrated. Then Agayla appears to offer up Kiska's services to the Enchantress.

Banith

Manask and Ipshank have a discussion in a dark alley.
