Talo Krafar was an assassin of Jurrig Denatte's Clan[1] of the Darujhistan Assassins' Guild. He was described as a bull of a man[2] with a broad, crooked nose and dark eyes.[3]

Talo used a crossbow, normally strapped to his back, with the quarrels sheathed on his left leg.[4]

In Gardens of the Moon[]

Whilst on a routine nightly patrol of the rooftops of Darujhistan as a Roamer, Talo Krafar found himself the target of another assassin. Wounded by a cross-bow quarrel hitting and going all the way through his left shoulder, he later mistook Crokus for his stalker and tried to kill him. Talo's crossbow quarrel, however, missed the young man as Crokus unexpectedly bent over to pick up a coin which had suddenly appeared on the roof in front of him.[5]

Distracted and dumbfounded that he had missed, Talo did not notice that someone had appeared behind him. Talo was killed by two long, grooved daggers to his chest. Talo's body and his crossbow were then thrown off the rooftop platform he had been on.[6]

It transpired that Talo's pursuers had been Tiste Andii assassin mages under Serrat who were trying to eliminate the Guild at the behest of Anomander Rake.[7][8]

In Toll the Hounds[]

Talo was blood kin to Seba Krafar, who was the Master of Darujhistan's Assassins' Guild[9] during the events of Toll the Hounds.[10][11]

Trivia[]

In a 2020 interview, author Steven Erikson confirmed that Talo and Seba Krafar were blood relatives, but admitted he never decided on the nature of the family relationship.[12]
