Malazan Wiki

Trehan Golat was the patriarch of the Golat family, a very old and influential Falari family on Cabil in the days before the Malazan Empire's expansion into the Falari Isles.[1] The family held a permanent seat upon the island's guiding council.[1] Their villa, which they had owned for generations, stood atop a cliff amidst lush gardens of rare flowers, pools, and twinned fountains overlooking the Old Guando Sea.[1]

He had a son and several younger daughters.[2]

In Forge of the High Mage[]

Trehan was surprised to receive a visit at home from Mallick Rel, rising priest of Mael and overseer of the powerful cult's finances. He was even more astonished when the unpleasant little man declared he was taking ownership of the villa for his own need to reflect his rising status in the faith. When Trehan protested that the villa was not for sale, Mallick informed him that the man's son had not presented the cult with the required tithes and taxes, instead wasting the Golat funds on extravagant parties and gambling. As Mallick's guards dragged the enraged Trehan away, the priest informed him the villa would serve as recompense for some of the missing payments and suggested the Golat daughters could be brought into the Faith as scullery maids, floor scrubbers, or prostitutes to clear the rest. After Trehan's departure, Mallick admitted to his servant he would likely spend little time at the villa and he was unconcerned by any reprisals from the Golats as they had lost their position on the council when they lost their landed property.[3]
