Venes Turayd was a Tiste nobleman of Tulla Hold who lived in ancient Kharkanas and commanded a considerable element of the Hold's Houseblades.[1][2] He was the estranged uncle of Hish Tulla, and she had not seen him in decades. Their disdain for each other was mutual and the two engaged in a "protracted dance of avoidance in the managing of family lands and interests" with the nobleman open about his instincts to oppose her on principle. It appeared a drunken Venes had long ago attempted to sexually assault his niece, who had responded by stabbing him. Venes supposed Hish had kept this knowledge from Gripp Galas because he had not yet been forced to face her husband's sword.[2]
Venes was tall and thin, and expertly capable with the sword he carried on his belt.[2]
In Fall of Light[]
Venes refused Pelk entry into Hish Tullas's chambers within Kharkanas, and told her to instead share any relevant news with him. Venes and his men attempted to intimidate Pelk, but were forced to provide her entry when Gripp Galas approached Venes and stated that he would be visiting his wife within, taking Pelk with him. [3]
