Yannis Monastery in eastern Kurald Galain was home to the Yan Shake. It was located on the road between Kharkanas and Neret Sorr near its fellow Yedan Monastery. Its leader was Mother Sheccanto Derran.

The monastery was protected by a wall and gatehouse. Inside was a courtyard leading to the main multi-storey house where Sheccanto lived, as well as a barracks to the yard's east.[1]

Notable residents[]

In Forge of Darkness[]

Caplo Dreem and Warlock Resh chanced upon T'riss newly arrived from the Vitr. They brought her to Yannis for an audience with Mother Sheccanto. T'riss chided the faith that had bound and murdered its god, Dorssan Ryl, before she resurrected the river god.[2]

In Fall of Light[]

As Kurald Galain moved towards civil war, the Shake declared their neutrality. Hallyd Bahann of Urusander's Legion pursued the traitorous Sharenas Ankhadu to the Youth Forest near the Yannis Monastery but was repelled by Denier attacks. Thinking the Deniers incapable of organising on their own and running short of supplies, Bahann sought a convenient scapegoat. Upon Lieutenant Esk's suggestion, he commanded his forces to attack the Yannis Monastery. They infiltrated the monastery through trickery and burned the monks to death in their barracks. The visiting Father Skelenal was murdered and Sheccanto's two bodyguards sold their lives for that of Legion lieutenant Uskan and eighteen of his soldiers. Mother Sheccanto was found already dead in her rooms. The Legion sent monastery's mostly child servants to the Yedan Monastery before burning Yannis to the ground.[3]
